This is a pilot training program developed in partnership with UNITE HERE! Local 8, the hospitality union, and unionized hotel employers in Seattle. Employers include the Westin Hotel, the Doubletree SeaTac, the Hilton SeaTac, the Coast downtown, the Edgewater hotel, and the Embassy Suites Pioneer Square.

The Training Program’s mission is to provide just-in-time training for incumbent and prospective employees to meet the needs of our employer partners.
Room Attendant positions at these hotels start at $25 an hour on average. Benefits include health, prescription, vision, dental, pension, disability, and member assistance. Eligibility depends on hours worked.
The Room Attendant Career Training is intended for those looking to start working as a Room Attendant. The training includes more than Room Attendant skills. The training will also cover hospitality basics, customer service, and job search assistance, including informational interviews with some of the employers noted above.
Goals of Training
· Prospective workers will have an awareness of the skills and abilities needed to be successful as a Room Attendant at a union property.
· Prospective workers will be prepared to apply for roles at Local 8 hotel properties as Room Attendants.
· Incumbent and prospective workers will have increased consistency and attention to detail to detail.
· All participants will develop customer service skills.
Enrollment Process
Interested persons should first complete the form to let us know of your interest. The form includes information like work history as the program is intended to lead directly into employment.
After completing the form, you will receive a screening phone call. Please check to ensure that your voicemail is not full.
The next step is an invitation to the Orientation which will be the morning of Tuesday, May 6. At the Orientation the program schedule and outcomes will be reviewed, questions answered, and next steps discussed.
It is important to us that the program is the right fit for you-taking time to review all the specifics is important. Our team is aware that we are discussing a career change for you. It is critical that you go into this with full awareness of the Room Attendant role.
After the Orientation, invitations will be made to the program which begins on Tuesday, May 13.
Schedule Overview
Tuesday, May 13 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Wednesday, May 14 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Thursday, May 15 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Friday, May 16 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
½ hour lunch break each day and frequent short breaks throughout the day.
Stipend
A $650 stipend will be provided to participants who complete all hours of the training. For this reason, it is highly recommended to ensure your schedule is clear for the four days of the training. In addition, our team can help troubleshoot transportation challenges to help enable full participation.
The stipend will be paid several weeks after the training by check after processing by our accounting department.
Language
This class is currently offered in English and high English proficiency is strongly recommended. Future sessions will be offered in other languages.
Logistics
The training will meet at a location off 1st Ave between Dawson and Hudson Streets in the Sodo neighborhood. The address will be provided upon invitation to the Orientation. Transportation will be provided from and back to this location to the hotel site for the day.
Snacks and Lunch will be provided. Please bring a refillable water bottle.
