Words that Welcome is a program for people learning English. It offers classes that focus on language skills needed for jobs in the hospitality industry.

You have to options to join the program:

  1. Through your employer: Let your employer know you want to join the class. They may already have a group orientation planned, or they can ask us to set one up.

  2. Directly with us: If a group orientation isn’t available or doesn’t work for your schedule, you can contact us at training@pnwhospitality.org and we’ll arrange a one-on-one orientation with you.

Eligible participants are current employees of partner employers who are also members of UNITE HERE! Local 8.

Courses may be taken online on your own device like a smartphone or tablet.

You will select from one of the following courses:

Food Service for Beginners
Housekeeping for Beginners
Introduction to Food Handling
Introduction to Hospitality Customer Service
English for the Food & Beverage Industry
English for Tourism & Hospitality
English for Food Safety

After you finish the selected course and meet all requirements, you will get a $100 stipend. You must check in with a Navigator twice a month to help you stay on track with your learning.
